Description of Cobalt-Based Alloy Powder (Co-B)
Cobalt-based alloy powder is manufactured by melting a measured quantity of tungsten with carbon or molybdenum into a cobalt-chromium alloy to improve its strength. Given that carbon exhibits low solubility in cobalt, tungsten carbide phases such as WC, W2C and W6C form. These carbides provide the alloy with quantifiable strength and stiffness at high temperatures (800 °C).

Cobalt-Based Alloy Powder (Co-B) Applications
Owing to its measured resistance to high temperatures, oxidation and thermal fatigue, cobalt-based alloy powder (Co-B) is used in several processes, such as:
- Oxyacetylene spraying or overlay
- HVOF/HAFA spraying
- Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) overlay
- Plasma spraying
- Laser cladding welding
- Inductive melting
